Snubber Fittings (Gauge Protectors)

Swagelok® Snubber Fittings

Swagelok snubber fittings (gauge protectors) protect gauges and instruments from potentially damaging system pressure surges and shocks, allowing instruments to smoothly come to line pressures.

View Snubber Fittings

When a Swagelok snubber fitting (gauge protector) is installed upstream from a pressure-sensitive instrument, the response rate of an instrument to system changes is reduced, protecting it from potential damage. In doing so, the snubber fitting extends the lifespan of instruments and reduces costs associated with component replacement, repair-related man hours, and system downtime.

Pressure damping (or snubbing) is accomplished through use of a porous sintered 316 stainless steel element. The response rate then equalizes to the initial pressure drop across the element, allowing the instrument to smoothly come to line pressure. Five basic element versions are available, allowing snubber fittings to meet the requirements of fluid applications ranging from light gases to liquids like heavy oils with viscosities above 1000 SUS (Saybolt universal seconds). Snubber fittings should be used only to protect against pressure shocks, impulses, and surges. To control contaminants, use appropriate filters.
